Envelhecimento cognitivo e memória : a doença de Alzheimer em foco.

Abstract

We propose, through the present monographic work, a study about one of the biggest health problems in the world today, which mainly affects the elderly population: Alzheimer's Disease. We will start from a broad view of our object of study, first analyzing the process of normal aging, as a process of transformation of the organism, and conceptualizing cognitive decline, memory and language. Throughout our work, we will address the forms of dementia involved in the senescence process, their types and main characteristics, correlating with Alzheimer's Disease. From there, we will narrow our subject by doing a thorough analysis on the disease theme of our study, describing how it came about, distinguishing Alzheimer's in a common and hereditary way, addressing the main theories about their causes, idiosyncrasies and stages type of dementia. We will also investigate the relationship between Alzheimer's Disease and Down's Syndrome the commitment of language in terms of speech, meaning and communication and the importance of cognitive reserves in the process of delaying the onset of memory disorders. We aim with this work not only to analyze the disease, but mainly to deepen our knowledge about what happens to the individual between the discovery of the diagnosis and the evolution of the disease, since, receiving the news is shocking, there is still no cure, but there is a long period to the final stage, which should be used to the best of our ability.
