Abstract

This paper analyzes historical developments since the evolution of trade as an international element, the necessary steps that led to the creation of the World Trade Organization, including treaties and the GATT, as well as the current characteristics of the WTO. In these terms, the question is: How did path of regulation of international trade take place up to the current stage of the WTO and how can its development be verified? The method of approach used is the deductive method, building a historical evolution of the effects that led to the need for an organization that had the power and the possibility to regulate trade and tariffs in such a wide and global scope, as well as the instruments of the institution itself that seek to ensure the implementation of its directives in a balanced way. It is of fundamental importance the study of this subject, since the WTO's actions are present in several areas of international law, tax, and business, among others, also including actions on the economy and even politics, and the knowledge of its directives.
