Data do documento: 2020
Resumo em outro idioma: The present study is centered on the discussion and analysis of the ways in which the novels As alegrias da maternidade (1979), by the nigerian Buchi Emecheta, and As parceiras (1980), by the brazilian Lya Luft, reconfigure the traditional notions of motherhood, weaving approximations between contemporary narratives and critical trends in feminist thought. The research identifies the marks of gender and their specificities in the writing of female authorship, to then problematize the concept of motherhood as an intrinsic characteristic of female nature. Theoretical contributions come from thinkers like Simone de Beauvoir (2016), Judith Butler (2003), Hélène Cixous (1976), Luce Irigaray (2017), Heloisa Buarque de Hollanda (2018), Rita Terezinha Schmidt (2012, 2017) and Elisabeth Badinter (1985), as well as intellectuals of black feminism Gayatri Spivak (1994, 2010), Angela Davis (2016), bell hooks (2018) and Djamila Ribeiro (2017, 2018). When analyzing the constitution of the characters Nnu Ego and Anelise, protagonists of the novels by Buchi Emecheta and Lya Luft, respectively, we seek to identify how the notion of motherhood is reconfigured by them in the narratives, to finally investigate how cultural and writing contribute to the problematization of the idea that women establish for motherhood within the works studied. The use of the comparative study as a research procedure is justified by the choice of the corpus: a work by a nigerian writer and a work by a brazilian writer, recognized by the traditional and contemporary canon of the 80's. When studying two works that address the same thematic, but in different contexts - Nigeria and Brazil -, the specific research problem that we face exposes the fragility of this stereotype. We identified that the universal idea of motherhood will be reconfigured and particularized in each of the cultures and in the materialization of writing (in form), in addition to being marked by the condition of gender, because while the nigerian character values motherhood as the only possible option, brazilian character questions her inability to conceive children, which raises anguish and conflict in her.
