Abstract

Since Simon proposed to contemplate the existence of new elements in the decision-making process, where the choice of alternatives is permeated by a set of actions and behaviors that will lead to the most satisfactory option corresponding to the interests of the decision maker, there is a concern of different researchers about the best Authors Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman are a way to support the decision-making process, participating in this process. Their contributions can be explained by the influence of beliefs and judgments in situations of uncertainty, heuristics and biases, as tools capable of helping to choose alternatives in the rural context. The decision-making process regarding work and production in the rural establishment makes it imperative for the farmers themselves and for the organizations present in the territory. The identification of factors that influence the decision-making of farmers guided this thesis, using different approaches that contribute to the theme. This research has as its axis the decision-making process, and as an object, family farmers and the mediation of Organizations in their surroundings, in the municipality of Venâncio Aires, located in Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, this doctoral thesis aims to analyze the decision-making process of family farmers with regard to work and production in the rural establishment when mediated by organizations present in the territory. Thus, considering the existing literature and studies and, with a focus on family farmers, some questions emerged about which factors can influence decision-making. family farmers in rural establishments with regard to work and production when mediated by organizations present in the territory? To this end, research was carried out in two phases: qualitative exploratory phase and quantitative descriptive phase. The qualitative exploratory research had the participation of 20 farmers, respondents, from different rural establishments, which supported the elaboration of the structured questionnaire for the next phase. In the quantitative descriptive phase, there was the participation of 368 farmers, interviewed, the socioeconomic profile of the interviewees, the main active organizations and the type of information made available by them were investigated. The main electronic and traditional means of information used by the decision maker were also investigated and the influence of variables in limiting the decision-making process of family farmers in rural establishments and the mediation of organizations present in the territory, among other relationships, was analyzed. able to support the understanding of the focus of this work. The survey shows a better performance in satisfaction, reliability and transfer of information from traditional and electronic sources to other people, compared to information from organizational sources. This indicates the possibility of greater engagement by organizations in providing reliable information that contributes to decision-making by family farmers in Venâncio Aires. And when relating satisfaction with the success of farmers' decisions with mediation by organizations and institutions in the work and production decisions of the rural establishment, the result was positive and significant, but weak. Again indicating the need for greater action and mediation by organizations in the decision-making process of family farming in Venâncio Aires. The conclusion is that in the municipality of Venâncio Aires, the decision-making process is influenced by information sources that come from traditional and electronic sources and from organizations present in the territory, with regard to work and production in the rural establishment. It is also identified that decisions, despite being complex, make family farmers seek to simplify their choices through heuristic processes and judgment bias.
