Abstract

Childhood can be the unique and, at the same time, multiple form of the whole event. It is unique, inhabits a unique being, but transcends wherever it goes, becoming diverse, hybrid, audacious (KOHAN, 2007; FRONCKOWIAK, 2013). It enters different territories and peoples them with its eyes, its smile and its touch. The childhood enchants those who are willing to take the time to experience it, look at it and listen to it. The present research investigated the childhoods present in the books of children's poetry by Sérgio Capparelli awarded by the National Foundation for Children's and Youth Books and by the Jabuti Prize. The sensitive in us focused on Ox black face (1983), The tree that gave ice cream (1999), An elephant in the nose (2000) and The moon inside the coconut (2010), books whose awards are twenty-seven years apart between the first and the last. Through bibliographical and qualitative research, we were able to experience the many childhoods shared by Sérgio Capparelli over that time and, immersed in the phenomenon of understanding (which is always an understanding of oneself), observe that they departed from known territories, such as those linked to oral tradition (parlegends, tongue twisters, comics), animals, family affection and migrated to new spaces, interacted with love and sex, carefully observed the society in which they inhabited and inhabit and denounced themes that were often fracturing, such as death, loneliness and those derived from social injustice. Childhood matured and grew older, yet it did not lose sensitivity, sweetness and the ability to love, imagine, dream, be happy with nonsense and illogicality and believe in the impossible, mainly because an adult poet still manages to believe.
