Austrália e o regime de mudanças climáticas : análise das tomadas de decisões.

Abstract

With the world getting more united and globalized, it becomes gradually more difficult for government leaders to make decisions. This is due to the growing realization that many of the actions taken at the homeland have international effects, especially in fields with global consequences such as the environment and climate change. Countries like Australia display decisions that contradict with their environmental reality, raising the question of why this occurs in this specific case. Considering the recent relevance of climate change, the unique environmental situation of Australia and based on the Theory of International Regimes and the Theory of Two-Level Games, the present work aims to discover how the domestic board and the international board influence the decisions of the australian government from 1992 to 2023 under the International Regime on Climate Change. For this, the deductive methodology is used in a case study, using descriptive research and bibliographical research as ways of data collection. Analyzing both the timelines of the Regime in question and that of the Australian governments, it is possible to understand the motivations behind the actions of each government. In this way, the present work demonstrates how it is impossible to make decisions without suffering consequences on both boards, identifying the main pieces of the game and showing the increase in power of the International Regime on Climate Change.
