Transcedendo a questão histórica : a configuração da ironia em Desonra, de J. M. Coetzee.

Abstract

In the present dissertation, we present an interpretative proposal to the romance Desonra, by J.M. Coetzee, at light of reflections about the narrative entity, aspects of the Postcolonial theory and romantic irony. Through this, we also report to the possible knowledge generated and transmitted by means of the reading. The hypothesis that guides this work is that it deals with a literary narrative that is presenting the striking problems of the world nowadays, such as significant social and cultural changes and specific situations inherent to the human condition. The discussion and analysis of such themes constitute the objective of this work. In order to realize the research, we take as theoretical reference authors like Tacca, Kiekegaard, Muecke, Duarte, Krause, Bhabha and Hall. The research is structured in four chapters in which we present first the history of South Africa, the development of its literature and considerations about J.M. Coetzee; afterwards, we investigate the figure of the narrator in the mentioned work, analyzing the tricks used in the story account; we also report to the theoretical aspects that involve the term Postcolonial and its application to the presented situations in the romance and, at last, approach the irony matter, especially the romantic irony, considering it as the philosophical perspective that enables our interpretative proposal. In the final considerations we retake the main ideas of the text, relating them to the theories, and explain the conclusions we had after the research.
