Um tesouro a ser despertado : o capital social no município de Santa Cruz do Sul, RS.

Abstract

This paper studies the capital in Santa Cruz do Sul, RS, investigating the types and dimensions of existing groups and networks, collective action and cooperation, and trust and solidarity. Also lists possible links between social capital and the development of the municipality with reference to theoretical main political scientist Robert Putnam. Santa Cruz do Sul originates from a colony established in 1849 by the government of Rio Grande do Sul. Historical research shows how certain cultural and social were present in the town since the beginning of the German colonization. In the absence of the state, the residents have created community hospitals, were dozens of parochial schools, built and maintained temples, cemeteries, bridges and roads. Ali flourished also a large number of companies from an economic, cultural, sport and recreation. The general objective of this study was to analyze the existing stock of social capital in the city in 2012. And worked with two hypotheses: 1) It was believed that in recent decades the stock of capital could have decreased due to a number of factors (forced nationalization, the intense migration, accelerated industrialization and urbanization of the city, etc. .), and 2) it was imagined that the type of social capital in the city would be the predominant type of bonding, and to a lesser degree the type of bridging and linking types. In field research, 270 questionnaires were applied throughout the municipality, considering a margin of 4.74 percentage points, with a confidence level of 90%. Are investigated characteristics of the capital, in the present day, which investigates issues such as citizen participation in groups and networks, trust and solidarity, collective action and cooperation. The results indicate that there is currently a good stock of capital in the municipality. Among the existing types predominates in Santa Cruz do Sul the type bonding. The capital of type brindging compared with the bonding and linking, can be considered average. But the stock of social capital linking existing type can be considered the weakest.
