Tratamento cirúrgico periodontal em paciente com hiperplasia gengival inflamatória crônica : um relato de caso.

Abstract

The periodontal cosmetic surgery is a procedure realized when there are problems of gingival architecture and it aims to restore the physiological form, improving mouth aesthetic and facilitating hygiene. In the presence of gingival enlargement, it’s generally indicated the surgical method for a correct treatment, in association with basic periodontal therapy and with oral hygiene instruction. Then, the objective of this work is to report a case of a patient who has chronic inflammatory gingival hyperplasia and to describe the used treatment ways. The patient is young and female, melanoderma, and presents gingival disorder by increase in volume in anterior teeth (upper and lower), mainly in interpapillary area. The proposed treatment had involved hygiene education, basic periodontal therapy and corrective periodontal surgery (gingivoplasty/melanoplasty). After realized therapy, the results were initially satisfactory from an aesthetic and functional point of view, were restored right form and function of gingiva, facilitating the hygiene and valuing patient’s smile. However, due to inadequate hygiene made by patient, in 6 months it happened the beginning of relapse of hyperplasia in some parts. It was concluded that, in periodontology, the most important phase of treatment is the oral hygiene instruction. The basic periodontal treatment associated with appropriated surgery procedures causes an improvement in the case of chronic inflammatory gingival hyperplasia, but if the patient does not keep your oral hygiene daily and properly, the relapse can happen.
