Abstract: Skin aging is caused by the body's natural effects (intrinsic) and/or environmental effects (extrinsic), as the exposure to sunlight, UV radiation, smoke, pollution, hormonal changes, genetic causes and living habits, etc. The first signs of aging are thinning of the skin, sagging, fine lines and hyperchromic spots. The aim of this study was to improve the appearance of photo aged skins, making a comparison between the effects of the application of glycolic acid and pyruvic acid peels in women between 40 and 55 years old with facial signs of aging. It was observed that with the taken experimental conditions the results after the treatment with&#xD;
glycolic and pyruvic acid peels were not visibly satisfactory.</summary>

Authors: Silva, Thamiris Bastos
Abstract: This article presents a case study that aimed to evaluate the effects of 50% pyruvic acid peeling and 30% salicylic acid peeling in acne-prone skin. Five subjects aged 16 to 25 having acne grade two participated in the study. The treatment consisted of six sessions of peeling, given that the left side of the pacient’s face received the application of pyruvic acid and the right side was treated with salicylic acid. The results were analyzed by photographic records, count of acne lesions and questionnaires (clinical evaluation, quality of life evaluation and satisfaction evaluation with the treatment). The results presented improvement in overall skin appearance, oil control and reduction of acne lesions. Salicylic acid peels obtained a more prominent when compared to the peeling of pyruvic acid, reducing all survey participants the number of inflammatory lesions. However, at these experimental conditions, the results were not sufficient to guarantee the participants satisfaction with the treatment.</summary>
